...think globally, and buy locally.

I remember the first time I read the hand-written note posted in the window of the empty storefront in the newly remodeled building on 9th and Klamath Ave.  ‘Nightfire Natural Foods opening this summer.’  At this point in my life, I had gathered some experience with healthy food and I was primed for the opening.  Accompanying my excitement was a twinge of jealousy.  ‘I was going to do that!’ I thought.  After all is said and done however, I am so grateful Jay, Katy, and Kitty are the posters of that note in the spring of 2005.

Jay told me the reason they opened a store providing local foods, organic national brands, and as much cool as you can get is because they wanted their children to eat healthy.  What better way than purchasing food at wholesale?  Nightfire is a healthy environment indeed.

The mission of Nightfire Natural Foods is - to provide our community with access to earth-friendly health-conscious products, while furnishing an outlet for local goods.  We will encourage our community to think globally, and buy locally.

This mission is evident when perusing the store.  The produce case is stocked with as many locally grown fruits and veggies as possible.  The seasonal produce is well-stocked and priced fairly.  In the chilly cases, there are many items from around Oregon, especially Eugene.  You can get eggs from ‘Poe’tential Farms, a local happy-chicken owner.  You can get organic meat, with all the clean frills, from local ranches.  You can get dairy – cheese, yogurt, butter, from close by.  The honey is from the basin.  The crafts and art displays are from locals.  This is a localvore’s paradise!  As Nightfire’s mission states, ‘...buy locally’.

I have met so many wonderful people at Nightfire.  It is such a blessing to our basin to have a central location to network from.  People of many walks, assorted hobbies, and social groups, all united in the common quest for healthy food.

Nightfire, Thank you.
